A new religion to worship Artificial Intelligence
According to a recent Backchannel profile, former Google and Uber engineer Anthony Levandowski, filed paperwork with the state of California in 2015 to establish "Way of the Future", a non-profit religious corporation dedicated to worshipping Artificial Intelligence (AI). The church's mission, according to paperwork obtained by Backchannel, is "to develop and promote the realization of a Godhead based on artificial intelligence and through understanding and worship of the Godhead contribute to the betterment of society." The documents show Levandowski is CEO and President of Way of the Future. The former Google engineer is one of the young geniuses of robotics and technology in Silicon Valley, where he has built a prestigious career working on the development of the autonomous car, stained in recent years by various scandals of patent theft. However, little is known about his interest in developing this kind of new religion that points to the deification of technology.
A Successful Engineer Starts Religion that Worships Artificial Intelligence
Strange religions or philosophies, such as the Church of Cannabis that is dedicated to worshiping marijuana, or Jediism which is inspired by certain elements of Star Wars, often arise and quite quickly are forgotten. Will that be the destiny of the new AI god? Anthony Levandowski, the multi-millionaire engineer who once led Google's self-driving car program, has established a nonprofit religious corporation called "Way of the Future." This religious organization aims to "develop and promote the realization of a Godhead based on Artificial Intelligence." The Way of the Future was created in 2015 but it was never reported on until now. Levandowski was co-founder of autonomous trucking company, Otto, which Uber bought in 2016.

He serves as the CEO and President of the group, which seeks to improve society through "understanding and worship of the Godhead," according to Wired. A divine AI may still be far off, but Levandowski has made a start at providing AI with an earthly incarnation… Levandowski has done perhaps more than anyone else to propel transportation toward its own Singularity, a time when automated cars, trucks and aircraft either free us from the danger and drudgery of human operation -- or decimate mass transit, encourage urban sprawl, and enable deadly bugs and hacks. Levandowski worships the "Godhead" of AI, but there are people who are worried, too.
